Starts out fairly fast then progressively gets faster and faster up to an insane 320 bpm.

Every time you see something amazing, someone cries "Photoshopped!". It doesn't look photoshopped to me.

First, the quality of the sound diminishes as the speed increases - the fingering gets muddier. The guy's *hair* moves the same as it does when he plays slower - it doesn't accelerate as it would if the video had been altered. Also the guy in the background with the clipboard moves similarly, not dancing around madly as the playing gets faster.

    I think it's for real.

Seriously, the only reason people post photoshopped on something that is obviously NOT photoshopped, is cause some dumb ass like you tries to argue the point.

Goddamn my hands cramp up when I play "Love me tender", I don't even want to think about what it takes to do this.

    For those who claim "photoshopped"

Has it occurred to you that video manipulation, as you are asserting, is much better done on Premier or even After Effects? Photoshop is good for image manipulation and some animation, but it doesn't deal with sound at all, unlike Premier or AE.

If you are going to accuse someone of using software to manipulate a bit of video, you might want to at least be knowledgeable enough to accuse them of using the correct one.

BTW, that really is amazing playing.

    guys a fucking loser.

cool, you can play "flight of the bumblebee" at 320bpm.

how about contributing something meaningful to music as opposed to this shit.

    this isn't an achievement.

It's clearly photoshoped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

The guy has obviously spent a lot of time practicing (and the vid is certainly authentic). But he's also using tricks to make what he's playing sound more impressive than it is: very high gain, and very low action on a very flat-radius neck.

All of which are legit, of course, but largely metal-specific. There are reasons this set-up wouldn't sound so great in the hands of equally accomplished pickers from other genres.

But most of all, what he's playing isn't truly "Bumblebee," which is based on long passages that are completely chromatic, but an arrangement that uses lots of lower-octave open-string notes -- which dramatically simplifies the whole thing.

Trust me on this. I've worked up the tune myself (muuuuuch slower), note for note, from sheet music and MIDI transcriptions. Different notes from this, whatever the key.

Search youtube for "bumblebee guitar" and you'll find dozens of files of other guitarists playing this better (along with some truly embarrassingly bad stuff).

i think its funny that everyone is getting on his ass about saying photoshopped, when it was a joke. this guy is very skilled though, that would take hours, and hours, and some more hours of practice. PHOTOSHOPPED... :P

Why do people cry Photoshop... ON A FUCKING VIDEO.

  20. Konraden

    August 31, 2008 1:38 PM

Really, people don't get it? The entire joke behind yelling photoshopped is because it's either.

A: clearly not photoshopped / impossibly not photoshopped

    or

B: Supposed to be photoshopped (Worth1000 anyone).

    It's metahumor.

For the people who said photoshoped, ITS A VIDEO, videos can not be PHOTOshopped, photo being the key word in the product name...

    This is photoshopped you morons.
To all you "disprovers", check out the pixels on the right and bit leftish center top 2:33-2:45.
Only a moron who haven't seen enough shops in his life could think it's real.

Believe me, I've seen shops before.

Very repetitive, mostly right hand work, similar to playing mandolin. For speed and musical complexity, the standard remains Leo Kottke's "6 & 12 String Guitar" (1971). Kottke blows this guy out of the water with a 12-string acoustic. On one tune (Coolige Rising?), he's cruising along, then about 32 bars in he drops in the slide. At that point you realize that all of the amazing stuff he's done to that point has been accomplished with only 3 fingers on his left hand.

Fast only matters if the music matters.

The "Photoshopped!" cry is an XKCD joke. Please read XKCD and you will get it. The joke is to call Photoshop on anything impressive in any way.
